FUTON is the Japanese word for mattress or bedding. The
Japanese are extremely heath conscience and have been using Futons for
centuries.
The Futons found in the United States have been Americanized to
adapt to our culture. In Japan the Futons are usually made of all
cotton batting. They are thinner and placed on the floor atop rice mats
. This allows for easy storage of the bedding in the morning which is
necessary due to space constraints in Japan.
In the US the Futon pads are made thicker as we use slated frames
and a thicker pad is necessary so that the slates are not felt through
the bedding. In addition most Futons in the US today are not made of
all cotton batting as these are rated Extremely Firm . The
blending of other materials are used to bring the comfort levels in
line with US norms .
Many chiropractors recommend Futons as a full time bed to clients
due to their firm even support. In addition many customers are
using the Futon pad with a convertible frame , as a sofa sleeper , and
desire a pad that is still great for overnight guest sleeping but cushier
for the main use as a sofa.
HOME CONCEPTS stocks seven different types of futon mattresses to accommodate
the different uses and tastes of our customers. Its not so much that
one type is better then the other it is more a matter of picking
the Futon Mattress that is right for your intended use and
budget.
